Is it better to use mac office or partition my hard drive, get windows 7, and then use microsoft office? I just got a new macbook pro for college and I was just wondering what scenario would be right for me. I downloaded the free trial of mac office and everything, and it appears to be the same thing as microsoft office. If i should partition my hard drive, how much do you recommend I partition for windows? I was just looking for some advice from fellow mac users.

Can I install the Microsoft Office upgrade version with a previous version on a different partition? I have Windows XP and Vista on the same computer, but on different partitions. Office 97 is on the XP OS/drive but I can still use most of its functions from Vista somehow. Can I install the 2007 upgrade version on the Vista drive, or do I need the full version...or does the upgrade need to be in XP?
There is a partition on the other side of my office that is used for visitors to work at. There is a employee? there who has been offered office space but has chooses to stay there most of the time. He is a nice person, but it is driving me crazy. Listening to him whistle, type, just being there. He has taken over my coffee pot, and I just feel like he is in my personal space. I cant make phone calles personal or professional as it makes me nervous to talk when he is hearing everything that I am saying. He has walked around "MY office space" a few times and grabbing things off my desk. No one in this office does that. Should I purposely try to annoy him or what? I have been playing music this morning.

If I install office on a laptop with two operating systems? My laptop has vista and win7 on a different partition and I know you can install office on three computers with the same disk. So if i already used my office disk twice for two other computers and I want to use it the third time on vista on my laptop, do I have the chance to use the disk for the fourth time on my laptop on win7?
How to partition a small office? I have a small office (8x13ft) with a small wash basin given in a corner. I want to sheild the wash basin from public view. The prevalent practice here is to place the filing cupboard in front of it which I don't want to do as I feel it gives a cramped look. I was thinking of erecting a low wooden partition and painting it like the walls or should I use a screen of some sort? Help! p.s. this office is in my workplace.

Why is transparency a good thing in offices? most of the offices use aluminum and glass partitions, which have many other advantages, but why is transparency is a good thing !!
iWork or Office:mac - which is better for a college student? Which one would be better for a college student (first-time Mac user) doing some papers, a few spreadsheets and the occasional presentation (but mostly papers?) Oh, and don't say OpenOffice (IT SUCKS!) and don't say "just install Office on a Windows partition and use BootCamp or Parallels" (I DON'T WANT TO!)
Why is Office 2007 bugging me about voice recognition? I'm completing a form sent to me by my teacher as homework. I have gotten a 'warning message' several times from Office. It says: The document was saved, but data for speech recognition was not saved because there is not enough space to store it. Be sure to turn off the microphone when you are not recording and check the available storage space on the disk. Now this is totally bizarre for the following reasons: #1 I have *never* used speech recognition. I occasionally use the microphone for skype and I have no interest in continually fiddling with settings to play with the microphone. #2 I recently upgraded from Office 2003 because the program got corrupted and my original disk was damaged in moving. Nonetheless, I have been using Office 2003 for the last 2 years with the same amount of storage space on C (I have a small C partition because I like it that way). I have never seen this message before, even when dealing with much, much larger documents. #3 Office 2007 isn't even supposed to *HAVE* speech recognition. According to Microsoft, that function is no longer supported in 2007. Therefore there is also no way to turn the durned thing off!!! I am no noob when it comes to computer stuff, but this one has me stumped. I cannot find speech recognition in the options anywhere in Office 2007. Google took me to Microsoft's website where they said that the function no longer exists in Office 2007. If anyone can tell me where to find the thing to turn off the function in Office, it would be great. I find the new menu system in 2007 to be apallingly bad and pointlessly confusing. Nonetheless, I have searched through everything I could find and the help files. BTW, I would prefer to use Office 2003, but I got 2007 from another student who got it free with his Uni course and also switched back to 2003 as soon as he finished the class. Horrible "upgrade". I'm still on XP too.
Want to use my already installed MS Office with...? Just set up a dual boot with Vista/Windows 7. On Vista, I had Office 2003 installed. Is there any way I can use this with Win 7 without having to re-install Office? I would love to use software I already have installed on the other partition. Thanks!
Does anyone know where to buy the Fabric that covers partitioning in offices? We are Western Australia. and are looking to recover our office partions and can not find anywhere that sells just the Fabric. It also doesn't help not knowing what it is called. Sometime's used on pinnup boards.
Partition Vista C: into 2 partitions? I have a laptop with vista, currently it's loaded with MS office, a few other software and updates for drivers and MS. Total space in C: = 280Gb Total available space in C: = 250Gb When I tried to do partitioning using the function Vista, the system only allowed me to shrink C: to 170Gb, leaving the unpartitioned space (for D:) to be ~80Gb. Question: How can I increase the amount of space i can shrink from C:? Ideally, I hope to have 120Gb in C: and 150Gb in D:. Someone... please help! Thank you!! Just wondering... Would it be better if i format my laptop and do the partitioning (with Vista function), before i install the updates and softwares?

Does the backside of a window unit air conditioner have to face outside? Okay, this might sound a little strange and it was just a quick thought that I had. We are getting ready to frame in a new office in our unfinished basement. Currently we have a makeshift set up using old office cubicle partitions which is very cold in the winter and hot in the summer even though we use a space heater (and fan in the summer). There is one window to the outside where the office will be, but it is an old vertically opening one that is attached to a concrete wall (the foundation). We plan on getting central air at some point in time, but not for a while because it is too expensive right now. That being said, I plan on putting two additional windows in the walls of the new office (this is to let the air circulate as well as not having a completely closed in space (my wife does not like that idea). I think closing off the space and insulating the walls will significantly help the cold issue, but then that leaves the summer. So my question is this - does the backside of the window unit air conditioner have to face outside? Meaning, could I put a window unit in the wall of the new office and have the backside face out to the rest of the basement. Thanks.
can you partition a mac book pro with an oem version of windows 7 home premium? My first mac, and as I consider myself a super savvy windows PC user, I am really hoping to be able to partition my drive and put windows 7 on it so that I may use microsoft office "one note" since that program isnt even available for mac yet...and suggestions for note taking software btw?

Program that will burn an Image in XP that can be used in 98SE? Help! I am working on a computer for a friend. They thought that because they had office XP they could delete anything that had to do with 98, not understanding that was their operating system....eeekkk! They did not have their original disk that came with the computer, but had the key so I think, great I will use an old CD I have around here and just reinstall. Problem is that it is so scratched up that after doing a partition and format I realized that some of the cab files would never load. I found the files on the internet and downloaded them. I then took the good files from the original disk and added them to a folder with the cabs. I now need to burn it all as an ISO-doesn't even need to be bootable......Thing is that of course XP has a file system that is not compatable with the system on 98SE. Anyone know of an answer or a program that will burn in a format that will work on 98? Would Nero do that? I know it does a lot, but don't have a current copy to check. Thanks for any hel Sorry if I wasn't clear. My computer that I will burn the CD and download on is an XP operating system. I need to burn an ISO that will work on his 98SE machine. Thanks so much though!
Partitioning an hard drive question. How to parttion a hard drive of 500 GB and explain why.? You have been given a 500 GB hard drive as a replacement for your office PC. Nobody else uses this PC but you. Assuming you are going to be working for a company that develops large mechanical drawing files for customers, draw a graw showing how you might partition this drive. Briefly explain why you chose the size of each partition.
what do you call a workstation system where workers sit at long tables in rows? The workers sit at a long table facing another long table of workers. There are rows and rows of these and there are no partitions. Macquarie Bank in Bond Street, Sydney, uses this system. Workers are squashed against each other in a noisy environment where they have no privacy. I'm wondering if this is a new trend in office layouts.
iWork '09 or MS Office? Im buying a mac and I am not sure weather to get iWork '09 or not. I am going to need to use bootcamp to partition my hard drive, anyway no matter what. But should I install the Word 2007 I have on this PC right now? or go with iWork? I am not considering the mac version of Office at all. Thanks. :]
Can a partitioned mac run word 2008 for mac on the windows partition? My parents don't have a computer, so they have to use my mac. But they don't know how to use mac so I've decided to partition it with windows 7. If I have Microsoft office 2010 for mac, can I just insert the disk in and install it on the windows partition, or do I have to go get a microsoft office word disk? Please help me!

Help please I found that my enterprise edition of Office 2007 installs all the software into my Windows partition drive. Microsoft Office for Macbook? I have recently installed windows vista ultimate for my macbook. I would now like to install microsoft office. Is it possible for me to purchase the regular microsoft office software for windows and install it on my bootcamp partition, or do i have to buy the windows for mac and install it using leopard? Thank you!
Can I install programs to a separate "data partition" and run those programs from both Vista and Windows 7? I would like to avoid having to double install programs such as office software, browsers, music players, etc. I have already moved all of my "user folders" to this separate partition that both OS's use. The issue that I see arising is problems with the registry, you would probably have to "sync" the registry of both OS's, I don't know if that is possible.
How do I get two cisco 7940 phones to ring simultaneously without using a shared line? I have a person that works in two separate offices as a manager. Each office is in a separate location, dev pool, partition...etc, and each has a different directory number. The current manager will switch locations on a regular basis and wants to have it so it doesn't matter if one or the other line is called, it will ring in either office. Presumably, a new person will soon be hired to take over as manager in one or the other office, so I don't want to implement sharing the lines between offices, because although that might be the easiest solution, it's not good to have lines from different partitions appearing all over the network on devices in other partitions...it could quickly become a mess. So, I'd just like to have both numbers ring at the same time when one or the other is called. I was looking at line groups and hunt lists, but don't want to create a new hunt pilot number that people have to remember to call, or they'd have to change the directory listing.
Sharing a Home Office? My wife and I both do separate lines of consulting work: I'm a writer, and she's in education. We have a single room, with two desks (one for each of us) that we use as our home office. I'm reading conflicting statements on trying to decide the "exclusivity" of our home office space. Some say we can't share the room, but some seem to suggest that an office area can be considered " a space". So can't we say we split the room down the middle and that half is mine for my work, and that half is hers for her work? I mean, we don't share the others desk, files or computer, but we do run to the same printer. Would I have to actually partition off the room? We do actually have multiple doorways going onto each half of the room.
I have a program on one partition of the hard drive and I want to access it on the other partition...? I have office 2003 on windows xp home on one partition. On the other partition I have XP Pro. I have lost the CD and want to use Office on XP Pro. I can access it from program files but when a program opens (for example Word) an error message comes up that says "this program is not installed for this user". It is really frustrating because it is on the computer, but I can't use it!
Help switching to Ubuntu from windows? Hi everyone, I know this gets asked a lot, because novices like myself know very little about Linux, so please be patient with me. I have searched tens of forums to get some basic knowledge, after I used my friends laptop with red hat installed and was impressed how much better it ran than my same model xp! After my research, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go Ubuntu - I like the look of the user interface and the addition of a net book version of the latest OS (I have an NC10). When it comes to windows, i like to think i know what i'm doing and have had duel booting laptops and desktops for ages - I know it seems odd, but i like to have the latest windows os, as well as the previous. My work moves me alot and i like to stay confident on more than one os. However when it comes to linux, i really am a little out of my depth, so would like your help. Firstly what I plan to do is triple partion my hard drive (160G) to keep XP as there is some software i have to keep (adobe audtion, premier/ microsoft office) a partition for ubuntu and a main partition to store media and files so that both os can access them. Now the main thing that concerns me - what do i do about drivers? the forums i have searched have been quite unhelpful with people offering specific drivers or just talking in riddles. I'm most worried about the wirless driver as I have had issues with these upgrading to vista and windows 7 recently. Finally just general advice on using ubuntu- what office suit should i use? what media player, email client (I plan to keep using chrome for my browser - the small interface is perfect for netbooks) any software you recommend? is there anything you think i should know about linux, any thing you wish you had known, all linux ramblings more than welcome! Thank you in advance everyone! --------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks everyone, loving Ubuntu right now it took 1 hour 20 to set up partition, install the OS, download chrome, set up email and wireless networking! I decided to re-install xp at the same time to make the pc feel totaly fresh, buy contrast the was a nightmare - 1 hr 10 to install os,over 1.5 hours to download updates and install them, an hour of trying to get all the drivers to work properly and I still have to install the antivirus, microsoft office and configure outlook to be where I was about 3 hours sooner with ubuntu. Thanks again for you're help guys, I now see the irony of worrying about drivers when the linux OS worked perfectly straight off! Still getting used to it (see question about shared partition) But it already seems so much more straight forward, and I've spent 14 years on windows PC's!
What kind of business can I start in a warehouse building? My husband has a machine shop and only uses about 1/2 his building. I would like to start a business in the other half. I wanted to partition off a room for an office and do bookkeeping and then I was thinking about maybe a document shredding business or a document storage business would be good - any other ideas? Thanks! The zoning would not be a problem. This building is located in the center of town off a main street through town. I currently work for an accounting firm and you would not believe the paper we go through - we use a shredding service and have a storage building. Doctors offices and lawyers also have a lot of documents that cannot be thrown in the garbage because of the information they contain. Thanks for the input - any more?

Home Remodeling Question Regarding Basement Wall? My girlfriend and I have a partially finished basement. She wants me to divide part of the basement off for an office. What is the best wall/divider/partition I can use so she will have privacy from the rest of the basement? Is Drywall the only answer? What can I use for a nice ceiling as well with lighting? Mac Bootcamp Hard drive partition? I just bought a new iMac and I want to put Windows XP on it. The problem is that I can't decide how big to make the hard drive partition. I have a 750 GB HD (which is actually only 698 GB before any installations). I will only be using Windows for small school related things such as Access. I will use Office for Mac and do all of my internet things in OS X. Basically I will only be using Windows for any school project that I have to do that I can't do on my Mac. I do, however, want to upgrade to Vista in the future so I would need to leave enough space for that. How big should I make the Windows partition? Thanks.
Will a new install of Vista recognize my programs on my second hard drive? I made the mistake of using only 16 g for Vista on my primary HD..I want to install a second HD as my primary with Vista and delete the original Vista on a partitioned HD (C:)...Will my new Vista install recognize all of my old programs (MS Office, Nero, etc) on my first partitioned HD (E:)? Sound confusing?

My XP registry has many items pointing to a deleted harddrive partition. What do I do? A long time ago, my dad deleted a harddrive partition that I now believe had Office 2003 installation files and whatnot on it. Since then, I'm unable to repair my Office programs. My toolbar settings don't stay saved. My Norton Security doesn't work. And I can't even log into Yahoo email or any other https sites. Help! I've used Regedit and seen that many programs have things pointing to this nonexistent drive. But when I look on the C drive, these files don't exist. What do I do? Can I just delete these files and hope that the programs reset them up? Or do I just change the drive and point them to files that don't exist on my C drive? I know nothing of changing the registry and really don't want to screw anything up. But in the meantime, my daughter is using MY computer all the time, and that totally sucks. Help!! BTW: It's been so long that System Restore isn't an option because that restore point doesn't exist.
Networking assistance. Please help. I cannot seem to answer this.? A company is moving into a new office space. The space has an open floor plan. The office partitions are designed to facilitate routing physical network cables. The network budget allows for the purchase of new cabling and connection hardware, including network adapters, as necessary. However, you have been directed to keep costs as low as possible. The company wants to install a network with a minimum bandwidth of at least 100 Mbps. The plan should allow for future expansion and for eventually taking the bandwidth to 1 Gbps. The final network should not have any routing requirements. 1. Explain why you would or would not use each of the following media types: a. STP b. UTP c. Coax d. Fiber optic e. Wireless 2. Which media type should you use to wire the network (be as specific as possible)? Why? 3. Describe the general network topology. 4. What types of connection hardware, including cable connectors, would you use to connect network devices? 5. What guidelines should you follow for wiring the network? 6. What would be necessary to upgrade the network to 1 Gbps, based on your initial design?
i just used a windows xp cd to format and delete my linux partition but now i can't connect to internet? i have a internet router in my house and i can't connect to it for some reason. normally there would be something on the bottomn right toolbar that is for internet connections but its not there, how can i connect to the internet???i went under network and indernet connections and they only have set up or change your internet connection create a connection to the network at your workplace set up or change your home or small office network set up a wireless network for a home or small office change windows firewall settings and none of them let me connect to a internet connection the linux i had before had internet so i know i don't need to download new drivers or something
I need to create space on my partitioned drive C ( only have 300MB left!) Can I remove safely the following;? I have Microsoft Office XP Prof at 469 MB which I obviously need to keep. BUT: Can I safely remove Microsoft Office XP Media Content (610 MB). Will it affect anything?? I do not know if this gets used by myself. I just use Office for Word, Excel and occasionally Access. I do not use Powerpoint. I do not have the Office XP discs as the were loaded previously.
If I save Microsoft Office onto my external HD and reformat my hard drive, ...? will I be able to, once I reformat my hard drive, drag the applications back onto my desktop and have them be fully operational? I'm attempting to install Windows XP on my Macbook, and its giving me a hard time. I'm getting an error message stating, "the disk cannot be partitioned becuase some files cannot be moved" and it's telling me to " Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." Well, quite frankly, since Microsoft Office came with three licenses I sold the disk and two second licenses for $150. Microsoft Office is fully functional on my computer, but I want to make sure it will still work and I will not need to reinstall it (since I won't be able to) if I end up erasing and reformatting my HD. Thoughts? Will I have a problem if I drag and drop the application to my external HD?
I have installed windows vista on my other drive but don't want to install all the softwares again on that dri I have 3 partitions on my computers and have just installed windows vista on my 2nd drive while windows xp on my primary drive...Since I have used xp for a while I have installed all my programs such as norton antivirus and ms office and all minor software on C: drive but now that I have Win VIsta on my D: drive, do I have to install all those softwares on that drive again or is there a trick where I can have use all those softwares from C: drive where they are actually installed!!!
I loaded Office 2003 Professional on my computer, and now I can't do anything on the computer. Please help. We are running XP home edition. I loaded Office 2003 Professional Edition. Everything was working fine after the install. I even rebooted to make sure that everything was okay. The problem started when I clicked to open my browser. We use the maxthon browser. Immediately I got an error message that said that there was a problem with windows explorer and it had to close. I cannot open any folders or programs. The windows explorer window opens immediately over and over and it's like the desktop is kind of rebooting and then the windows explorer window comes back again. If I try to open any other windows application (sometimes I can get the start menu to open if I'm quick enough) such as system restore or help and support or search, then I get another error saying that whatever that program is has an error and has to close. I don't have any disks because this is a dell and it is partitioned on the hard drive. None of my stuff is backed up because I'm an idiot. Please help. Also I went into safe mode and tried to uninstall Office 2003 but it said that I couldn't uninstall it in safe mode. I can't get to the control panel in normal startup to try to uninstall it. Thanks in advance for any help. It is a legitimate copy. I don't know where my business partner bought it from, but we have several copies, with several licenses. I loaded the same copy on my laptop...the computer I'm on right now, with no problem. It's a real microsoft disk. I forgot to say that I "temporarily" uninstalled my virus protection before I installed office. I will try to get to spybot and adaware. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to those programs. Thanks for the helps guys.
Please help, my computer won't turn on when I press the power button? I have a single desk in an office room with two desktop computers on it. One, to the left is an eMachines T2862 (came with a 60GB hard drive, since upgraded to 320GB). Ironically, I just finished re-formatting the 320GB HD with lots of headaches and installed a Ubuntu 9.10 on the first partition (with 6104MB swap partition) and two small WinXP Pro partitions (one's for general use and documents, the other is for viewing movies, photos, listening to music and playing games and using PhotoShop). I attempted to try to install a logical FAT32 partition, but GParted has the "logical partitioning" option in the drop-down grayed out for some reason. The Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu 9.10 partitioning systems don't list the same space either. And, from that point on, creating any type of partition using my EASUS partition editor, which I downloaded from the internet, and probably any other partition editor for Windows is completely disabled. I have no idea why. Now, back on topic. To the right on the desk is a Dell Optiplex Gx260 (or "O") which is the one I am typing this question on. This one, however is able to power on and work just fine. These two computers are both plugged in to one extension cord plugged into the wall. I believe that everything on the eMachines model is plugged in just fine. But when I press the power button in any way, nothing happens at all. The monitor for the eMachines computer turns on fine, though. My dad suggested it may have been a bad power supply that's the problem. We worked on taking a more powerful power supply out of a computer that I don't even use anymore. We installed it fine, but it still does nothing. Also, the little light bulb in the computer still lights up, according to my dad. Any help would be grateful. Thanks.
How to remove a hidden USB drive partition ? Okay, here it goes. I have a usb drive and i used it in office last year. That is an imation swivel 4GB usb drive. There is a partitioning software in it and I used it to secure my 3GB data which means now I only have few hundreds MB left for public usage. After sometime, I misplace and got myself a new one. Recently I found it back at my office. I plug it into my pc and the usb drive is empty but it has only the few hundreds MB free space. So I believe that the secure partition has been hidden in it. Since I found it back my usb drive, I would like to full use it. So may i know how to remove the secure partition or hidden partition ? is there any solution to got back my 3GB ? Thanks.. Hoping for the replies. =)
Which type of linux would you recommend on a old HP Compaq NC6000? I will be using it for internet, watching movies online as well as using any media player, reading pdfs, office and Skype. I want to install it on my other partition and want to keep other OS also. thnx
Macbook keeps giving me an error that HD is full when saving. However, there is 150gb free.? So, I originally had 3 partitions on my HD. One for OS-X and all my software which was about 150gb, of this there was only 40gb used. Next I have I partition for just data which was 70gb, of this only 30gb was used. Lastly I had a partition for boot camp and that was only 32gb. Everything was being saved to the 150gb partition and I would get errors through Microsoft Office products that they couldn't be saved as there was no space remaining on the HD. I tried to run repair and verify all the partitions but the problem still persisted. I am not sure what to do, I have deleted all the partitions and the problem is still occurring. I am afraid the HD may be finished. I would like to know how to completely format the HD and do a fresh install of OS-X. I have everything backed up with Time Machine as well. Help with Restoring a Computer to Factory Settings? I have a Gateway computer that I bought from circuit city in november of 06. When I click on my computer, I have two drives. C and D. C is one that I can put files on. D is a recovery partition (i think, because I didn't make it, it was there when I bought the computer) My computer also came with a recovery CD. My question is: What should I use to restore the computer to factory settings, the CD or the partition. If the answer is the partition, how do I do this? Also, what will happen to the trials of software that came with my computer (i.e. Office). I have already activiated the one that came with it. It expires in July. If I revert to factory settings, will I lose this trial or will it start over? The same question applies to my McAfee service. It expires in March. Will I be able to reinstall it or do I need to buy a new one? Thank very much to everyone who helps by answering this question.

Using Microsoft Officer 2007 After Reformat? Basically, i'm going to be formatting a partition of my hard drive soon. This partition has Microsoft Office 2007 on it. I downloaded Microsoft Office 2007 from a student website when it was on offer to students. I used a validation key at the time but i do not have the key anymore. If i were to copy the Microsoft Office 2007 folder to my external hard drive, format my internal hard drive, then drag the MS office folder back to the Program Files folder. Would i have any problems (e.g. requiring the validation key).
How do I install just microsoft word without installing all of Office? My old computer has Windows XP and uses Word 2002, which I needed for school online (they send documents in Word, I edit/add answers, then e-mail them back in Word). I bought a new computer but it came with Works and now I can't open or edit any of my school files. Even with the converter, I can't edit them. Can someone tell me how to install Word from my old computer (I have the CD w/ product key) to my new computer without having to install everything (windows/excel/etc.). Can I JUST install Word, or will I have to partition my hard drive and upload everything??? Please help!

I lost Windows 7, Can I get it again Free !!! I have no prove !!? When I bought Laptop there was Windows 7 but the repair (maintenance) CDs had Windows XP. I used these CDs to partition my hard drive and fix the Microsoft office (because it was installed but wasn’t working). Unfortunately I lost my Windows 7 and Windows XP has been installed in my computer. I want windows 7 because I already have paid for that with computer price but I don’t have any prove of that. Is this still possible without any extra cost??? Please don’t suggest me to contact computer dealer. Because they said “no”.
Question about Windows XP Pro - Disk space.? I want to install Windows XP Pro in a separate partition. How big or small should that partition be(for the OS only)? The other partitions I intend to use to store media and personal files. i.e. In case my OS gets corrupted somehow, someday, I can just reformat that partition that has the OS. Also, I intend to install programs like MS Office, messengers, Skype, media players, converters(encoders, decoders) and codecs, Nero, games, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Firefox and such. Basically I'm using the PC to do everything. What should the partition size for the OS be then? Please don't just give me a link to the Microsoft Windows XP Pro support page. I've checked it myself already and the specs are intended for the minimum of systems really. The ones which don't involve photo and video editing, web-designing and playing games even. I mean, c'mon.. 128MB of RAM? Bwahaha. So I want answers based on your own experience. Preferably people who's got similar purposes for their system as myself. How much HD space do you use for your OS partition? Thanks.
Create an image of hard disc with WinXP installed, and then simply copy the image to a disc? It is for my parents laptop, they have a tendancy to install rubbish on it, and I would like to just re-image it from an image of the hard disc, without the need to reformat and re-install. I know it is possible to use a ghost software, with a twin partition, and simply ... 1. Install OS on main partition, with office / updates etc 2. Create ghost on other partition 3. Let parents install rubbish on primary partition and slow down XP 4. Ghost the 2nd partition back onto primary partition, thus restoring it to original state. Thats reasonably simple, but is there a better way of doing it?
Install Mac OS X Leopard on Vista Machine? I just recently became a Web Designer for a local business and at the Office we use Mac OS X 10.4. My home machine is running Windows Vista Home Edition 32-bit. I love working with Graphics and Web Design on Macs, it is really totally different. I have a very large hard drive (1 TB) and I'm sure I can easily run many operating systems on it. I also have an external hard drive (80 Gigs). I have a copy of Mac OS X Leopard and want to install it on my Machine for a "Dual Boot" kind of operation, I have done some research and found this to be possible, but challenging. I am willing to take the risk. How can I go about doing this. I just need to know where to start. If I could find some step-by-step instructions that would be amazing. If possible, can I install Macintosh on the External HD and Boot from there? If not, then I can install it on a 2nd Partition. How can I go about doing this? Where do I begin? I appreciate all the help. Thanks in advance.
My Apple Macbook Pro restarts unexpectedly when I use Windows XP? Ive had my MBP since September of 06 and Ive had Windows XP the majority of the time on my machine. I use Windows mostly for my computer games and Office. Id say about 2 or 3 days ago, when I'm on that partition, it would just restart on its own. No screen comes up saying anything it just restarts and goes to the apple screen where I can pick either windows or OSX. I upgraded to OSX 10.5 probably 3 weeks ago and installed new RAM about 2 or 3 days ago, but I installed it all okay and it comes up on the system. While using the OSX partition it doesnt restart, and before I deal with the Apple support team, I figured i would ask on here, maybe someone knows, or had this problem. Thanks for any and all help
What is the best version of Linux? I am going to partition my hard drive and put Linux on one half and have Windows XP on the other half so I can have both operating systems running. I do alot of web surfing, picture editing and use microsoft office alot (I know you can't use this in Linux). So what is the best version of Linux for these tasks and other day to day things that you would do with XP. I have been to the Linux website and I didn't know where to start with the list of different versions. Thanks

What are my options for wiping a drive when the OS is in inaccessible partition? ? I will be selling an IBM ThinkPad X60s, and want to erase the hard drive first. This ThinkPad model has the operating system and other software that came with the notebook (Microsoft Office) in a separate partition which is inaccessible. If I use hard drive erasing software (such as WipeDrive or SecurErase), will it wipe out the operating system and software too? IBM apparently stopped providing a CD with this software on it a number of years ago, and put it in a partition on the hard drive, instead, so I certainly don't want to erase whatever part of the hard drive where that software is stored. Thanks for any assistance.
Macbook... 3 questions...? 1. How much harddrive should I partition of using Bootcamp to install XP 2. Can I put this harddrive in the new macbook? http://www.directron.com/hm500li.html ... would this involve much, or do I just pop it in and run the disks that came with the macbook 3. When running bootcamp, do I need to instal a special kind of windows (especially meant for apple?) Also, if I install office in windows, do I then need to buy it again if I want to use it in OS X? "Bonus" question: Does anyone know if there is anything in the works to hook up a firewire device into the new macbook (im assuming theres nothing else out to do this) Thanks so much
Windows 7 Word Problem PLEASE HELP, 10 POINTSS ??!!? OK, so I had Windows Vista and I wanted to try Windows 7 so I particioned my harddrive and installed windows 7. Hi there, i'm a school teacher who has to set up a windows xp machine with a separate partition for a student doing his end of school exams. how to fix windows xp comp, hard drive(hdd), linux, partition? help? I have a few questions about my Windows XP Pentium 4 desktop that I managed to screw up. Before I get to the questions though, here's what happened so that you know what I’m working from: I was doing a project in my high school technology class on Linux Mint so I decided to try it out on my comp. A kid in my class gave me a CD with Linux Mint on it. The CD was warped so I simply bent it back into shape and ran it on my computer from the CD ROM drive for a week. I decided I wanted to install it so I ran the installation from the CD and told it to make a separate partition. While making the partition, the CD went warped on me again and it kept running in a circle trying to partition my computer and I couldn’t stop it so I unplugged my comp hoping everything would reset. When turning on my comp, I got a message saying that there isn’t any boot device available. I also found out that my HDD was already partitioned in two from my mom. So now I figure I have a worthless chunk of metal scraps for a computer but decided to try one last thing. I was able to order the original OS installation CD for my comp from DELL and install it. However, now my Windows XP OS is on drive E with only “1.4 GB NTFS” of space. Then on the other side of my partition, on drive C, I have “73.1 GB” that is now “UNALLOCATED” because I deleted partition C. I deleted partition/drive C because I thought it would move all of the 73.1 GB to drive E where my operating system is. I am currently using my moms comp as I don’t have anything on mine other than the OS so I obviously don’t have any files to loose anymore. I don’t have any $. This is where I’m at now and what I have to work from so here are my questions: ( Please be detailed as I don’t know very much about computers and how they work ) 1-How do I set up my comp so that my OS is on drive C with ALL 74.5GB of the memory/space? I don’t want any partitions. I tried downloading free partition managing software onto my flash drive to run on my comp but I don’t have enough memory on my computer to run any of these programs. 2-Once I get my comp fixed and set up, I need to set up a wireless network. I noticed that my wireless internet was 4x’s faster when running Linux Mint off of a CD. I would like to be able to use Linux Mint for surfing the internet,…. then save the info and stuff I need off of the internet into Open office,… then open that up into the Microsoft Office programs in Windows XP. What is the easiest/quickest way for me to do this as I will need to switch between Linux Mint and Microsoft XP a lot? I know I can do this by just running Linux Mint off of a CD,… saving any data I need to Open Office & then to a memory stick,… and then reboot normally, in Windows XP, & finally, open the files with Microsoft Office but this will take forever to do. Would it be easier and is it even possible to make a small partition that will just be big enough to hold Linux Mint, and then switch between Linux Mint & Microsoft by just pressing a button that will switch between the two OS? I don’t even know if this is possible as I have extremely little experience with Linux and messing around with computers so any suggestions would be nice. 3-If any of you would like to donate to my Pay Pal account (jaredhouse_iat@hotmail.com) to help me get a new computer, I will blow mine up just like this guy did (but with a bigger explosion) and post the video (If I get $2,000) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eQQTFSbjM0 4- How do i erase all of the partitions with the XP OS installation CD? I want to do this, then install the XP OS so that there are no partitions. Then i will add a partition for linux.
