How thick is a typical residential interior partition wall? Hi all - I'm guessing that a typical wall interior residential wall is 5" thick. Is this correct? I am assuming there is .5" thick gypsum board on each side nailed to 4" wide wooden 2x4's and that equals 5". Am I missing something here? It just seems that 5" is a low number. Thanks thanks guys - i'm also wondering how thick the outside wall would be for a three flat building in chicago with a brick veneer. is 1'-4" a good estimate?

How to change from one color of paint to another on the same wall? My living room to my kitchen is an L shape. The back wall flows straight from the back of the living room to the dining room and then all the way to the kitchen with no brakes in between. There were partitions there separating the rooms but I knocked them out. I don't want the same color too run throughout that floor. Is there any suggestions? Maybe some thing to separate the rooms or some kind of vertical trim so that the rooms can have different color. Thanks.
Attention general contractors: how much would it cost to tear down a wall? How much would it cost to tear down a wall which was put up in a garage to partition a portion into a little office? It's a one-car garage, approximate size of wall is 11 lineal feet by 8 foot high. It was done by a builder so is most likely to code. It has a door as well to permit access to the entire garage. I'm just looking for a cost range to raze it and remove the debris.
Moving my toilet to another wall? I am remodeling my bathroom and am moving my sink and toilet. I need to know what I can do with moving the toilet to a right angle. I have heard that it can get expensive if I move it across joists.

How to create a temporary wall/partition using fabric? I have to create a temporary wall/partition at a party and I cannot do any drilling, hanging, stapling etc into the venue. So this has to be freestanding. I'm thinking of using PVC piping with fittings to create two poles on each side with one horizontal pole to connect them, and then drape some fabric over for the curtain "wall". My question is, what do you recommend to use as posts? Should I cement cinder blocks into the ends of the pipes? Or if you have ANY other way that would be helpful.
Any ideas for building a temporary wall/partition in a bedroom? We need to build a temporary wall/partition in our master-bedroom. Does anyone have any ideas of what to use, how to start, using cheaper materials. This needs to be as sound-proof as possible. We are having to move our son (16mos) out of his room and bring him into ours. My father-in-law is moving back with us. At a later time when we can afford we will build on an addition - this is just something for a quick-fast-cheap fix. Something that is easy to assemble up and down when need to. Biggest thing is $$ - but isn't it for everyone! Thank you in advance for your help.
