Is a partition wall required in the loft to rent the property out? I have a terraced house built in the 1900s. The party walls do not continue up into the loft - the loft of the whole terrace is one large space. If i want to rent the property out, will i need to put some kind of partition/fire barrior in? Also any ideas of cost would be good. Many thanks in advance
Framing a partition wall against an existing finished wall? I'm enclosing a room off my garage, and the ceiling is completely finished with drywall. I'm adding a few partition walls (wood studs) and I'm wondering if I can attach the top plate of these new walls through the drywall to the ceiling joists. Do i have to cut out the drywall in order to attach the new top plate directly to the joists?
How should I repair my cracked partition wall? I have a partition wall which is joined to a brick chimney flue. Along the join some movement has occured and caused a large crack which protrudes out. I've taken some of the loose plaster off and the lathes seem fine. My question is do I fill the crack and try to make good with it or board and replaster it? I'd prefer to be able to do it cheap but I don't want the crack to reappear.

What type of Asbestos in partition wall? My Victorian house has a partition wall of thin boards lightweight, pos Asbestos. I don't know when the partition was done. If they are Asbestos are they likely to be the same type as roof slates ie. where DIY removal is allowed? What's a fair price for a lab test for these boards and Artex ceilings? Many thanks

Also is it OK to screw through the visqueen to fix the floor joists?
What is the law towards toilet attached to partition walls? Hi All Last week I had a Plummer in who has fitted a new toilet in my box door downstairs. I already spoke to the council and they confirmed that I did not require planning permission. But now that is built and working my neighbour came round today saying that it’s illegal to build a toilet attached to a partition wall. The toilet it attached to the partition wall but I don’t understand why this would be wrong. Can someone please confirm and explain why. Many thanks. Hi Everyone, thanks for your quick reply so far. He has said that he does not like the noise the toilet is making, but thats not my problem.

What is that partition thing set in front of drummers on live stage performances? Hi. I've seen on live stage performances, the band would have something that looks like a free standing partition/wall item surrounding the front and partial sides of the drummer. Sometimes it is clear and see through, at other times it is opaque and can only reveal shadows/light. What is the name of this partition, and what is the purpose of it on stage?
How thick is a typical residential interior partition wall? Hi all - I'm guessing that a typical wall interior residential wall is 5" thick. Is this correct? I am assuming there is .5" thick gypsum board on each side nailed to 4" wide wooden 2x4's and that equals 5". Am I missing something here? It just seems that 5" is a low number. Thanks thanks guys - i'm also wondering how thick the outside wall would be for a three flat building in chicago with a brick veneer. is 1'-4" a good estimate?

can i build a partition wall with glass blocks..? I am want to build a partition wall to make a large bedroom and boxroom into 2 smaller bedrooms. Should I use vapor barrier in my interior partition walls? correction: example: should it be sheetrock-6mil(or 3mil)-insulation-6mil-sheetrock? I'm building some rooms in my house. Currently, there are no rooms, just the brick walls with damaged plaster directly over the brick (no lathe, and I'm repairing the damage with cement). I'm about to begin framing rooms, and I plan to use fiberglass insulation, then vapor barrier, then sheetrock over that. That sounds fine for the interior walls over the brick walls, but when I'm building dividing/partition walls, should I also use vapor barrier? On one side, or both? example: should it be sheetrock-6mil or 3mil-insulation-6mil-sheetrock?
How can I partition a part of a living room? I need to somehow partition off part of a living room. It is surrounded by three walls, and I need to partition the third wall. It is an apartment, so I cannot make anything permanent. Furthermore, it is entirely carpeted. I would like to know everything I can do to partition it. I want as much sound-proofing as possible. Ideally I would love to put some door-like structure there, but I doubt that's possible. Any suggestions?

load bearing walls and engineered trusses.? i'm doing an addition, and framed the exterior walls with a double top plate, because they will be load bearing. i also framed the interior partition walls, and put a double top plate on those as well. someone told me i should have built the interior partition walls after the trusses were put up, or i should have made the interior walls 1" shorter. they said the load would not bear on the exterior walls if the partition walls are built at the same height. does anyone know if this is true?
How to partition a small office? I have a small office (8x13ft) with a small wash basin given in a corner. I want to sheild the wash basin from public view. The prevalent practice here is to place the filing cupboard in front of it which I don't want to do as I feel it gives a cramped look. I was thinking of erecting a low wooden partition and painting it like the walls or should I use a screen of some sort? Help! p.s. this office is in my workplace.

We have damp exterior walls and don't know if we need a builder, surveyor or roofer we have tried to remedy Brought an old cottage with damp problems that were promised to be fixed and to our knowledge they were. Chimney rebuilt, damp coarse done, all the usual the survey told us the damp upstairs due to poor ventilation in chimney but they had put pots on with tile covers so it could breath. Had to wait for it to dry out brought dehumidifier drying out a treat. Then winter came heavy rain water dripped through ceiling don,t know wher from roof fine. Then damp appears on inside partition wall. Ripped out built in wardrobes innext room walls damp. We have rerendered the chimney watersealed it flashin & rooftiles are good. We recapped the unused outside chimneys with flat topped terracotta pots with vents in sides. Watersealed whole house dampseal painted the inside walls and its started coming through again but worse the walls are now wringing wet did we do wrong with the capping or is it the walls that are porous its single brick rendered & over 100yrs old house. We're unsure wher to get help
Do you know the requirements for the size of a toilet room and partition wall thickness? Do you know the requirements for the size of a toilet room and partition wall thickness? My current bathroom is a big square box which has a shower room, bath tub, vanity and toilet altogether. Now, I am thinking about putting partition walls in to create a separate room for toilet. Do you know if there are minimum spacing requirements for a toilet room in Australia (e.g. 30" width/ 60"length with 4" distance between wall and the edge of the toilet)? How about the wall thickness? Is there a mimimum requirement about how thick the interior walls have to be? If there is no requirement or you are unsure, could you please let me know your opinion? I want to save the maximum space for the bathroom (not the toilet), so I want to make my toilet as small as possible. However, I am relatively small and I am worried that what I design may not be suitable for visitors. THANK YOU!
partition wall material. i'm looking forward to build a hotel and for that purpose, someone suggested me to go for a dry wall (by saint gobain-india gypsum)or foam concrete wall partition. i wanted to know if dry wall is a safe concept, i mean is that sound proof and can we hear the sound if someone knocks on the other side? or foam concrete wall would be better? or i should just go for a brick wall? thanks.
