How can you change the local security policy to prevent user restoring file in fat partition? you are concerned about file security. recently, a staff member was reprimanded because he restored files to a fat partition instead of an ntfs partition. the user account is a member of the backup administrators group and the power users group. because fat does not have file-level security, the settings on the files allowed everyone on the network to view the confidential files. how can you change the local security policy to prevent this from occurring in the future?
Windows 7 Partition Security? My computer has two partitions - one runs Windows XP Pro (Service Pack 2) while the other runs Windows 7. When I am using my Win7 partition, I cannot read any of the files on my XP partition. However, when I am on my XP partition, I can go to “My Computer” and read all of the files in my 7-partition’s library. How do I make my Win7 files private also?
Boot Camp partition and security? I'm thinking about installing Vista when I get a Macbook. 1) How big of a hard drive should I get to accomodate both OS's? 2) How much should I partition for Vista (Leopard will still be my main OS)? 3) What sort of anti-virus should I get? 4) If Vista gets a virus, can it hurt Leopard? 5) If Vista gets a virus, will I be able to get back Vista's hard drive space?
Will I create a security threat when there is a partition of Xp on the same HDD as vista with no Firewall or a? So I finally got fed up of Vista crashing on me while i play games. This is a 4-5 year old computer that that is still good enough to play on. The problem now is that i want to create a partition for XP, i don't want to waste a license for a firewall so.... Will I create a security threat when there is a partition of Xp on the same HDD as vista with no Firewall or any kind of protection installed on vista? I wont be using this for surfing the web it's just to play games on to ensure that Vista wont crash on me, however i will be playing online on some games. Ben: If i were to be on the Xp partition, would i be protected since the firewall is installed for the Vista partition.
"Light" encryption / security for a partition or directory? I'd like suggestions as to what to use (or where to start looking) to encrypt / secure a drive partition or directory. Basically, I am not trying to keep high-powered code-breaking government spooks from reading my top secret files, all I want is a sort of "lock" on a number of files and directories so nosy flatmates etc.. cannot get at it, should they get access to my computer. At the same time, I need quick access to those files, because I often edit them, and they need to be accessible to other programs too, at least after unlocking. I guess the need for encryption locking/unlocking not to accidentally damage the files is a given requirement anyway, but I am paranoid about file integrity... Any suggestions what I should do / use? What about non-encryption methods? Truecrpyt seems "heavier" than I need. And not exactly beginner-friendly?
Norton Internet Security (3-pack) Ghost+ Partition magic.? I installed the above program (2008) yesterday...supposed to include Norton Antivirus Scan program. Remove any folder security in Windows 7? For some reason, some of my personal folders (located on my non-OS partition) have been given some elevated security, which means that I can't really access them, unless I take ownership. I don't want to do that at all, I want everyone to be able to access them anytime, because everytime I format/reinstall windows (which I do very often), I have to take ownership. Any ideas?

How can I change the assigned letter in a system partition over Windows XP? When I installed Windows XP the installer program assigned system paritition as F:\ (because in this moment found another Windows installed). Now I want to upgrade my harddisk and I've made a security copy of it with Norton Ghost over the new disk. But when I turn on the computer with the new harddisk installed Windows starts but it freezes when has passed a minute (rightly when the users appears). I've run the rescue disk and I've seen that "map" command assigns to this new disk the letter C:\ (no F:\) but this is incorrect (all the system links points to F:\Windows). With the command "map" I can see but no change the assigned letter and can't access to Windows Disk MAnagement because te disk don't start. How can I change this disk letter outside Windows?
My XP registry has many items pointing to a deleted harddrive partition. What do I do? A long time ago, my dad deleted a harddrive partition that I now believe had Office 2003 installation files and whatnot on it. Since then, I'm unable to repair my Office programs. My toolbar settings don't stay saved. My Norton Security doesn't work. And I can't even log into Yahoo email or any other https sites. Help! I've used Regedit and seen that many programs have things pointing to this nonexistent drive. But when I look on the C drive, these files don't exist. What do I do? Can I just delete these files and hope that the programs reset them up? Or do I just change the drive and point them to files that don't exist on my C drive? I know nothing of changing the registry and really don't want to screw anything up. But in the meantime, my daughter is using MY computer all the time, and that totally sucks. Help!! BTW: It's been so long that System Restore isn't an option because that restore point doesn't exist.
Trend Micro Internet Security scan done in a few seconds? I installed the program yesterday and whenever I scan, it's done in a few seconds, says no threats found. I tried all the scanning modes and it just finishes in a few seconds. And I DID select partitions for scanning. Thanks in advance!
Can I partition a HDD that already contains several GB of data? I installed a 250GB WD HDD as my secondary HDD.....and I didn't partition it. And, I only "see" and use about 117GB of the 250GB HDD. I've had that explained to me already. This HDD already has about 7GB of data on it. But now, I'd like to partition this "117GB" HDD so I can store my photo's and video that I've captured to one partition and "my docs" to another, etc. Is it possible to partition a HDD after the drive has been used to store data? I'm guessing not.....but I had to ask. I have Norton Partition Magic 8.0 but haven't installed it yet. By the way, I have not downloaded SP1 or SP2 to my HP yet....and may not ever.....the reason: I've been told it can, and will, mess up the HP (especially) computer. So, I'm afraid to take the chance on doing it. I have Norton Internet Security and it seems to work OK for me....and far as security goes.

How can I locate and delete a hidden partition in an external drive? I have an 100GB external drive for storage. Last year I created a hidden partition using a security program from another computer that I no longer have. I have just formatted the drive using my new computer but only 93GB of the 100GB shows up. Also, Windows 7 disk management will only let me view the 93GB. The missing 7GB is the hidden partition I created before and is not being recognized. How can I find it, delete the partition, and allocate the space? As mentioned, this is a hidden partition that I created and does not contain any system recovery or boot files. Thanks for your help. .
changing primary boot partition from linux to windows? I originally had vista installed, then I partitioned the C drive and installed linux on the newly created drive. Now whenever I restart my computer, it automatically boots linux unless I specify to boot windows on the opening screen. In vistas startup and recovery (control pannel-> security-> advanced security-> Startup and Recovery) in the system startup, there is no partition that I can select, it is just empty... Any suggestions? the empty space is a dropdown tab with nothing inside, it in not editable..

How can I re-partition my Laptop's hard drive without formatting (Windows Vista)? I have a HP laptop, & it has a 100GB HD, but I have only my Recovery Partition (D:) & the Windows Partition (C:) . I tried using Partition Magic so as to create a new partition but it doesn't allow me to take space from the C: partition, & the D: (Recovery Partition) has no space. (Note that I don't want to change anything in the Recovery Partition.) So, I was wondering maybe there is another way to re-partition or there might be some security restrictions I can disable so that I can create a partition from the free space on the C: partition. So, I hope anyone knows how to do this without formatting. Thanks in advance.

Should Iraq be partitioned to pay back the US for the $400 billion cost of the war in future oil production? Furthermore, if our troops are to remain in Iraq for Middle East security reasons, should the United States also be paid by Iraq for the cost of such future presence in oil and also be given a right of first refusal at market rates on all future Iraqi oil production? As part of that process should Iraq and its oil production be partitioned among the Sunni, Shia, and Kurds with the Shia to govern themselves and Saudi Arabia as protector of the Sunni and the United States as protector of the Kurds with our troops based in the Kurd sector ready to respond where needed in the Middle East as well as to protect this partition? The deadline for this partition should be no more than 18 months and then US troop levels could probably be cut substantially under this scenario.
My new Vista install showing Access Denied for the primary partition used by Win XP.? I have installed Win XP on my systems C: partition. After installing Vista on D: partition, Vista is showing Access Dinied on the C Partion. Whenever I run Win XP, it shows both partitions correctly. What happened to Vista or C: partition. both partitions have permission set for Win XP. The Security tab of the properties of the D: partition shows some entries with some alphanumeric entries for the users. I want to use both partitions in Vista withoit any side effect to Win XP. The solution did not work. I can change the ownership & permissions on the full C: drive even then it shows Access Denied in My Computer. While changing permissions/Ownership it show some troublesome files like bootmgr etc which cannot be changed. Thanks!!!
What's the logic behind crying on the 'partition' issue? After being more than 80% of Indian population, Hindus (not all Hindus) keep crying of being discriminated against by the minorities (all put together only 20%). Muslims are just 12%. If Hindus find it hard to defend themselves against such a minority, what would have been their plight if India was not divided during independence? The response to incidents like Gujarat would have resulted in unimaginable genocide. So, perhaps in one way, partition of India has given more liberty and security to Hindus, so why blame Mahatma Gandhi for the partition? Unofficial reports claim that a lot of Hindus were murdered and Hindu villages burned in Gujarat during the riots and as many Christians as were killed in Kandhamal, almost equal number of Hindus were also killed. If such small minorities inflict such casualties to an 80% majority, wasn't the partition a good thing that happened to Hindus? No hard feelings please. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orissa_communal_violence QUESTION FOR INDIANS, POSTED ON YA! INDIA. Hanumanji, Muslims cry on Gujarat riots because many of them were killed. Unfortunatelty, for some, India is a civilized democracy, so no one can stop courts not to register cases. Why should Muslims leave India? India is secular country and they can very well live in India, inspite of any objections. I never said only Muslims have the right to life and property, it's your wording, not mine. Indian government will deliver justice to Hindus exactly the same way it is delivered to all others. Nothing more, nothing less. Godses would be pinned up by the law of the land. This is not 1947. Would you agree to an accession of Pakistan and Bangladesh back with India and all the Muslims surrounding you? You will be scared to death, won't you? And don't get so angry.
How would i know if a trojan is in the boot sector or created partition? I'm no pro here, i just know how to do a clean install. Someone told me that wouldn't necasarily take care of a problem cuz it could create a partition or be in the boot sector. Windos security came up and found like 99 trojans but i closed it cuz i thought it was a trick. then i used malwarebytes and it only found 2 trojans in the registry. What should i do? Please only if you actually know a lot about computers, no guessers. Can trojans be hidden in empty disc space and even after a clean install be lingering? Which programs should i use to find and get rid of trojans? thankyou
Drive Partition D: ? Hi, I have a partition from my hard disk (D:) and the total capacity of the partition is 4.1GB. Now when I go to properties of the drive, it tells me that I am using 2GB of space, when I'm only using 220MB when I go into the drive, select all, then right click on properties. And also one time it said something about security storage or something, when I first opened it, but then I just closed the window. I just compressed the drive, and it was compressing the files one by one, and I saw some files that I never put on that drive (ex. D:\MiniNT) Ok if I type in the address bar D:\MiniNT it shows up with some kind of lock icon and tells me: Recovery Partition Warning! This area of your hard disk (or partition) contains files used for your system recovery. Do not delete or alter these files. Any change to this partition could prevent any recovery later. Should I partition a hard drive or not? I have an external 1TB hd. I plan on using it for regular disk image/backups of at least 3 computers. But later on down the road in the near future I am thinking of installing security cameras that will run off a dvr. I know some DVRs allow for a external hard drive to hold more video time so I might want to hook the external also up to that. Should I just make folders or partition the external hard drive? If so, what space would recommend for each partition? Also is partitioning the hard drive cause excessive wear?
I need a security program in windows(passwords)??????? i need a security program in windows. i have three drive partitions (c,d,e) and i want to put a password on drive e: also i tried the user special system provided in windows but didnot work out well as i need to switch those users again and again. i have also heard about folder lock but i am not willing to spend money on it
What gave the UN the right to annex land belonging to another country to establish the state of Israel? As I understand it, the Arabs involved never agreed to this. Nor were they consulted apparently (or if they were their protest were ignored) before Israel declared independence of their section of the partitioned lands? I understand that the Jews had no place to go and I sympathize but this usurping of others properties seems unjust to me. Why has the world turned a blind eye to this especially when it seems to be the root of the present day conflicts in that region and threatens the peace and security of the whole world?
Partition of Sale in progress and house goes into foreclosure, what happens? My ex and I were together for 12 years and own a home together in which we are both named on the deed of trust but only he is on the mortgage note. He walked out of me and the kids 8 months ago leaving us with all the bills and took all the money in our joint bank accounts. He wants me and the kids out of the house so he and his girlfriend can move in but he is not wanting to give me my 1/2 of the equity and I am not moving out or signing a Quit Claim Deed until he does. I may have to force a Partition of Sale of the home through the courts to get the money owed me through sale of the house. If I do this and he decides not to make the house payments anymore ( I can't because my only income is social security disability) and lets the house go into foreclosure, does the foreclosure of the mortgage company take precidence over my Partition of Sale case. I don't want to waste money for a lawyer and court cost to do this if he can just stop making payments and the mortgage company come in and take the house before we have a chance to sell it. Please help! I live in North Carolina and the kids are mine from a previous marriage but we have raised them together for 12 years. His daughter also lived with us also for the past 8 years after he won custody of her.
What are the major groupings of needs that people have, both physical needs and emotional needs? Like water, food, shelter, clothing, employment, security, health care, support, listening, spirituality, utilities, transportation, self-esteem, wisdom, relationships, etc. Those types of things. What would be a good complete partitioned list of needs common to everyone?
Can I access user account files on old XP Pro partition? I had Windows XP Pro on my laptop, but got a virus that screwed the boot-up of Windows, so I reinstalled windows with an XP Home re-install disc borrowed from a friend (Dell never gave me a reinstall disc). I left the old partition (C:/, NTFS) and created a new one on the leftover unpartitioned space, as I have a lot of important files on the old partition. I created the new partition on the FAT system, and when I went to My Computer > C: > Documents and Settings > [my username] I got the message: "C:\Documents and Settings\[username] is not accessible. Access is denied" popup. I tried changing the ownership and security settings, but didn't have that option in the properties. I reinstalled Windows again but on the NTFS system, and still got the same Access is Denied popup. Is this because I'm using XP Home and the old partition was installed using XP Pro? If I can reinstall with Pro can I access the files? Or is there another way of accessing the files? I would greatly appreciate any help as I really need those files. Thanks!
How do I access my Windows XP partition with more than read-only permission while running Mac OS X? So here's the deal. I'm running boot camp on my laptop (Mac OS X and Windows XP Home SP3). When I'm running OS X, I can see and access the Windows partition fine... except it's in a read-only manner. I want to be able to write files to that partition while on Mac. I can't even rename files...nothing at all unless I've booted up in Windows. My guess is that there is some kind of security feature enabled in Windows to prevent unauthorized drive access. Is there a way to disable that? Thanks, Ryan I went to Sharing & Permissions and it just says "You can only read." I don't have any options
What is a good partition plan for the territory that will be divided between Israelis and Palestinians? I'm a sophomore in a world history class and our subject is the middle east. I need to develop a partition plan for the Israel/Palestine problem regarding necessary territorial changes. So how should I propose to split up the area? Compensation for Palestinians and Israelis who were forced to leave their homes as a direct result of the Israeli-Palestine conflict. the allocation of resources such as water and soil the economic viability of Israel, Palestine, and the other states in the region the assurance of mutual security the role of the international community in supervising a negotiated settlement

Is it possible to access the HP Recovery Partition from a different (non-HP) computer? Basically, my HP Pavilion dv9260us laptop died. The motherboard is fried. So, I took the hard drives out, plugged them into my desktop computer... but they won't run because they have some security... thing, where it looks and sees that I'm using a completely new motherboard. So it won't run. I have an XP hard drive already in this desktop, so I can get all my personal information off of the laptop hard drives. Anyways, I just noticed that there is a "HP Recovery" partition on that hard drive... so I was wondering... is it possible to access that without using an HP computer? Using my XP hard drive?
Why does my 80Gb internal HDD which I have converted to a USB HDD have only 2 of 4 partitions detected? I have 4 20Gb partitions on this converted USB HDD and previously all 4 could be detected. However, after upgrading to win XP service pack 2 and installing a few security patches, I always only manage to detect the same 2 partitions with the other 2 being seen as generic storage partitions but without a drive letter assigned to them. As such, I cannot access the data. Is there anything I can do short of popping the HDD back into a system again? I only have a laptop at the moment. Thanks its an IDE HDD and the funny thing is that all 4 partitions were previously detectable when i first converted it to an external USB. Now only 2 partitions are visible.
Are NTFS permissions on local computers ONLY available if a domain is present? I have only NTFS partitions on my XP-Pro machine. My XP-Pro book talks about modifying NTFS permissions on a folder. "Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.", it says. But there IS not security tab! Only available tabs are: General, Sharing, Customize. What point am i missing?

I started the system with Bios but in the Boot section there's no CDrom option for me to choose. In PhonexBIOS setup utility there's (Main-Advanced-Security-Boot-Exit) and in Boot (1-) Usb FDC: (2-) IDE 0: Fujitsu**** (3-) Boot to LAN: B02 D00 Yukon PXE (4) USB Key: (5) USB HDD (6) IDE CD: Philips DVD*****. but there is no Cdrom option, I really don't undrestand how to do this preform. If Any one can Tell how to do it Step by step that will wonderful & will be appreciated......??? Is There an easy way to perform this installation? If I choose the DVD drive option what key should I press?? It doesn't work when I choose DVD and then click Enter. How to find the Cdrom option or how can I add the Cdrom to Boot menu?? Thanks
Where could I get a virus for Debian-Linux to test my wii homebrew operating system's security? I know one exists but that simple anti-virus software is built into most Debian-based systems but where would I be able to find a virus that will work on Debian etch 4.0? Probably pre-compiled or in a deb package for easy installation/use. The reason I want to do this is not to send a virus to a friend. It is so that I can test the security on a recent Linux project, codename: whiite. This is a distribution of Linux for the wii. It runs from the SD card on a secondary ext3 file-system that's triggered from a boot.elf homebrew file on the primary fat partition. Both the partitions are on a special SD card that has been made for this purpose. It can run deb and other packages including pre-compiled applications. as long as they just use the terminal because a GUI such as KDE hasn't been added yet although they're currently working on X implementation. Also, what would be the after-effects of such a virus? I was just wondering even though I'm still going to try it myself anyways. I know it's dangerous but whiite doesn't actually effect the wii's NAND memory because it's run directly from the SD card. Yes it is based on wii code (it has to be in order for it to run on the wii), but it won't do any permanent damage, at least I hope not. Please don't delete answers to my question. I asked it once before and it had two answers but when I went to see what they were, someone had reported/deleted/removed them. I will not use this Debian virus for destructive purposes that could affect someone or the property of anyone other than myself.
How do you recover files on a vista hard drive using XP? The files are not accessable by default. I dual boot Vista and XP on my laptop using a partitioned hard drive. I can access XP files while running on Vista, but I cannot access Vista files when running on XP. I also do some "backdoor" tech work, and I have not found a way to recover Vista files using XP (or even another computer with Vista). Is there a way of breaking down the security to save valuable data?

How can I recover encrypted files? My OS (Vista) crashed then I got it repaired. Thing is, I got files encrypted in save in a partition in my hard disk with ADSM (ASUS Data Security Manager) before my OS crashed. Now that I got my system back on, I can't decrypt them. Is there anybody know knows how to solve this?
Partition not accessible after loading Vista? I have a 250G hard disk which is partitioned to C:(75G) and D:(125G). Originally, the computer was running Window XP. After I upgraded to Window Vista, D: is not accessible. I am able to go to Disk managment to see D:'s properties, and to change all the security permissions to tick. I can see my original files in D: flashing during the process of changing permissions. But still D: is not accessible after that. Somebody told me that XP and Vista are forrmatted differently, although the system running are the same NTFS. So I can reformat D: under Vista to access D: again, . But now can I back up my files in D: before reformatting?
How do you beat a Deadman Switch? Help me be we all go postal & kill someone!? How do you beat a Deadman Switch? Recently my company moved to a new office in the city I am on a helpdesk. The installed a deadman switch in the new office that makes a frecken load noise every 15minute & has to be push within 20 seconds otherwise security raid the office , now we have one person on the desk at any one time on 12hour shifts. 15minutes is not enough time to even get to the last floor of the elevator much less pickup some lunch or dinner etc. it hardly enough time to got to the toilet. and there is no timer on this switch so you know how much time before you need to push it again. The swich is up against the partition on my desk.
