How to partition a portable hard drive?
I have a maxtor 80Gb portable hard drive that I got so I can use my PS3 to play media files that in the past I've had to use my laptop for. I know that the PS3 will only read FAT32 formated drives and that to format to FAT32 you need drives smaller that 32Gb so I need to partiation my 80Gb up, but don't know how to do it. A quick seach on the internet only shows me how to do it by purchasing software which I don't really want to have to do. Is there any free/shareware out there that can do it or is there a way of doing it without using external software?

- start menu > right click computer > manage > disk managment > right click it > shrink volume > select the size you want it to be in magabytes
- Fat32 partitions aren't limited to 32 GB. It's the windows 2000 format tool that is limited to creating 32 GB partitions. A free and very good partitioning program is GParted. It runs as a bootable CD and it can create, delete, resize, move fat32 (and other types of) partitions. And it is not limited to 32 GB. You can find GParted itself and instructions on how to use it here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
- click start then "control panel" next open administrative tools. Then open "computer management". in the list open disk management. u will see your drive in the box under your internal hardrive listed. delete the portable drive partition completely, then right click on it and select create a partition. you should be able to set a partition size low enought to format to fat32
