- 1) Hard disk swap file is read less frequently - your RAM is a lot faster than your hard disk. And with a lot of RAM, you'll have more recently accessed data available in a fast medium. You have more data "hits" is another way to put it. Otherwise your computer would have to constantly swap data in the Hard disk's swap file to the memory and vise versa (a very costly process). 2) DSL - yes, DSL is portable. In the sense that you can carry it around now and the fact that you can use it in most systems no matter what architecture they use. If that doesn't convince you then just note that cable is definitely not portable, cellular is slow as hell (slower than dial-up), dial-up (uhhh), and Moblile LANs don't guarantee internet connectivity (note the words "Local" Area Network).
- Answer1 = Hard disk swap file is read less frequently. This is referring to virtual memory, where an amount of the hard drive is allocated to the CPU for memory usage. Also why people with full hard drives experience massive slow-downs. Answer2 = Cellular. Cell technology is starting to be called wireless DSL, exceeding the 1Mb range. Edit - added a source link for wireless verizon broadband advertising speed capabilities
