Mobile Partitions

My computer can't read the full PATA harddisk!?

I bought a new computer (E5200 duo core) and I have a Samsung harddisk with these specs: 300GB/7200rpm/8M/PATA. I have 2 partitions (120GB and 180GB i think) in the harddisk. However, my computer can only read one of the partition, which is the smaller one, and display the larger one as only 1GB! I can see everything inside the bigger partition but I cannot add anything into it. Is there anyway to see the full other partition? Any programme to download? I am not using the harddisk as my master drive (access only through USB port, it is NOT a portable harddisk though!!) so I think I don't have to touch the BIOS. Or am I right?

  1. partition magic. weeeeeeeeeeeee
  2. Right Click on "My Computer (or Computer in Vista)" and click "Manage" Go to disk Managment Here you can play with the partitions. More importantly, here (or from just My Computer) you can right click on a partition, go to properties, go to security, and play with permissions.
  3. i think what you need to do is reformat the hard drive but first transfer any files you want to keep to your computer then go to hard drive icon in my computer right click on it and choose format check the size shown in format screen now if this shows the wrong size there is a partition tool in vista, go to computer in start menu right click and then choose manage when the computer management window loads up on left hand side choose disk management and let it load up your hard drives should show up you can then see the partitions and if they are set correctly and you can also change them email me if you need more help: edwardtrickett@live.co.uk
