Can you building Partitions/Walls in the basement wo permit?
I'd like to put up couple dry walls to build a storage room in an unfishished basement. Do I need a permit for that?

- Only if you will have electrical or water services in those walls.
- Check with zoning for your county. Usually cheap and no big deal if even needed; better to be sure.
- It depends on the laws where you live. The best way to find out is to call your town's Builging Official's Office and ask. Some cities might call it the Building Inspector's office, or the building department. If a permit is required, they can tell you the cost, too. It probably won't be much for what you are planning.
- No. If you are just doing a storage closet, don't worry about it. If you are doing a complete basement finish.....the only issue you may have is with the real property report when you sell. If you 're not selling, don't waste your time on any permits.. They are nothing more than a tax grab. Just remember, DO NOT do the electrical or plumbing yourself useless you have your ticket in each. Certified installers do work all the time on a cash basis on the side. If worse come to worse....just ask forgiveness from the city and play stupid.
