How can you make a pocket door in a partition wall ?

- Lots of hard work and talent. First, you need to determine where the door will be located and whether or not the partition is load-bearing. I'll give you instructions as though it is to be safe. The opening will be a little over double the size of the door you want, so if you want a 3' wide door the opening will be "around" 6' 6". You'll have to brace the ceiling on each side of the partition and remove the drywall and the vertical studs. Wiring can be an issue and totally avoid any plumbing which can't be easily relocated. You'll need to install two cripple studs to a full-length stud on both sides of the opening. At least a 2x10 header will rest on top of these cripple studs (there is a certain header height for the pocket door frame). Install the pocket door frame and secure it on both sides and the top and bottom. Install new drywall, and finish. Install the door into the frame and apply needed moldings, such as door stop, door casing, base molding, etc. Paint and finish. That's the non-detailed version. Good luck.
