  1. I use 2 by 3 for mine, but it depends on if you intend to put sound insulation into the gap, local fire regulations etc etc.
  2. 3*3 will be best for your situation
  3. I would suggest 4X2 because it is strong, you will have a good sound-proofing space to put your soundproofing slabs. You will feel more comfortable, the wall will not vibrate when you shut the door, and as well as that all door linings are 5" wide, so good luck.
  4. 3x2 planed all round is the standard size timber.
  5. Oregon pine would do the job
  6. im guessing you are in uk ..so am i ..you will need 4x2 ...set out at 16"centres ..with a sole and head plate ..noggin through centre ...plaster board one side ..using galvanized nails ..then infill with rockwall soundproofing bats ...very important that you fill every nook and cranny ....you can get them from insulation merchants...then board other side and skim ..if you need a light switch or socket in wall then get them fitted before you board....just one more thing ...on the sole plate do not use any more than 3"screws as you might hit a pipe below floor with longer screws
