iWork or Office:mac - which is better for a college student?

Which one would be better for a college student (first-time Mac user) doing some papers, a few spreadsheets and the occasional presentation (but mostly papers?) Oh, and don't say OpenOffice (IT SUCKS!) and don't say "just install Office on a Windows partition and use BootCamp or Parallels" (I DON'T WANT TO!)

  1. I would recommend Office for Mac, it's more widely use and I personally prefer it overall, however I beleive it's more expensive.
  2. I worked in IT at my college, and the most easy to port files came from Office, Mac version. It allows you to open and create standard Word, Excel, etc files that can be used by PC and Mac users alike. Using another, third party, seldom used program will cause issues later on. When in doubt, go with what the professors are going to be using, and that's Office. PS: I don't like OpenOffice that much either. EDIT: Check with your library or IT office at school, because many colleges have special deals for getting that kind of stuff on the cheap. We had a deal where the full Office suite was provided to students for $20. Not bad at all.
  3. Imo iWork 08 is perfect for average use. Support for Microsoft formats for documents, spreadsheets and presentations are perfect. And last but not least, pricing is excellent!
  4. WORD CENTRAL MCS2 Hi, you can download from the web site http://www.canduccisara.com WORD CENTRAL MCS2, it's a free writer like Microsoft Word or OpenOffice. But remember of download from the web site also the Framework. Good Luck! Bye
