I want to format hard drives which has got two partition like 'C' and 'D'.?
Is that i need to format each drive separately or only formating 'C' drive alone will do. I also backed up the whole "c" and "d' drive files in portable hard drive.

- If reinstalling the OS then you would only need to format the partition that it is installed on. Typically C.
- you cant do it within windows. you need to download a utility like Super Fdisk, or Seatools, or DataLifeguard (depending on the drive's manufacturer) and make a boot CD - and boot to the CD instead of the windows partition - then wipe out everything from within a DOS-like OS you can get something like Hiren's Boot CD and you have many progs to choose from you need to do some reading - because im 99.999% positive you have no idea what Im talking about... Better yet .... ask someone else to do it
- If you format the hard drive it will format the whole thing. It's a good thing since you have your files backed up. Just recreate the two partitions when you set it back up. This could be a good time to adjust the size of the partitions or add additional partitions, say one for the operating system and another for computer storage files, maybe one for gaming files?
- Format them separately, In My Computer right click the drives and select "Format"
- EACH partition must be formatted separately.
- The choice is upto you.....if c is ur system drive u have the following options 1) u can format only c drive and install the os in c 2)u can reinstall the os in any of the drives without formatting any drive 3)u can format both the drives...create partitions in a new manner and then install the os
- Dear friend, First of all, why do u want to format your hard disk?. Is there any virus? If your system is not working proper due to virus, you may format "C" drive only to run it back as usual but it is recommended to format your both drives. But if you want to get one more drive (C:, D: & E:), you have to format your entire system and re-arrange your partitions again from your Windows CD or you can change your drivers like adding one drive extra, or deleting one drive, or changing size of a drive (i.e. more space for C: drive and less for some other drive) for third party softwares like partition magic. You can change your drive sizes with this software and you can download it for free from the following site: http://reallyfreedownloads.blogspot.com/2009/03/partition-magic-this-software-allows.html
- If you computer has a recovery feature which is installed in a hidden partition, format the hard disk may spoil the feature.
