My DVD Optical Drive is not working.?

My optical drive is Sony RW DW-G521A ATA I used the program Paragon Partition Manager to split my hard drive into two, but then I aborted the operation because I noticed I was running out of space. After that my optical drive stopped working. It makes a sort of grinding noise when I place a disk into it and close it. And when I try to check on it through computer it just tells me to insert a disk into it when there is already a disk in it. Odd. I fixed the registry, cleaned the DVD Drive, reset it, uninstalled and installed the driver and thats it. I didn't notice anything burned or anything the lense also looked good and stuff. I really don't know whats wrong with it, but I sure don't want to pay $400 for a new one which HP is asking from me. I really there is a way to fix it but I have done so much research and I cant find any solution. Maybe one of you have found a solution, if you can either explain it to me or give me the link fro where you found it. Computer Specs: HP Pavilion DV2000 Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Intel Mobile 1.99 Ghz Best regards, Jean Luis Thanks for your help johnw, there is a problem however, those DVD Drives are for desktop, my computer is a notebook. Thanks anyway for your time. :D
